Three Entrapped on the "I"
May 2, 2010- At 0713 hours, the 7-81-15 assignment was dispatched for a reported multi-vehicle accident with entrapment on Interstate 81 at mile marker 22, northbound.  Engine 15-1 and  Rescue Squad 15, along with engine company 7, Squad 7, Ambulances from 7 and 73, and Medics from 7 and 84, responded on the assignment.  Rescue Squad 15 arrived to find two autos involved in a head-on collision with 3 entrapped.  One auto was in the median and had a single occupant entrapped.  The other auto was in the northbound lanes and had two occupants entrapped.  Command 7 was immediately established and 3 air medical helicopters were requested to the scene.  Engine company 52 was then dispatched to the scene to assist with the landing zone.  Due to their respective proximities to the two autos, the Squad crew from 15 immediately went to work on the one in the median while, Squad 7's crew went to work on the one in the northbound lanes.  Rescue Squad 15's crew went to work stabilizing the vehicle, removing two doors, and performing a full roof removal.  They then assisted with packaging the patient for air medical transport.  In all, 3 occupants were transported by helicopter to various trauma centers.  Command 7 released Engine 15-1 and the Rescue Squad at 0755 hours.  They returned to service but, the interstate remained closed in the northbound direction for several more hours.

Crews Respond to 2 MVA's and a Box Alarm
May 5, 2010- This 4 vehicle accident was the start of a busy day for the crew at WEFR.  Engine and Rescue Squad 15 along with EMS were dispatched for an auto accident at the intersection of Molly Pitcher highway and Eberly drive in Southampton township.  Rescue Squad 15 arrived to find 4 vehicles involved with the roadway blocked and one patient still confined in their vehicle.  The Squad crew immediately stabilized the vehicles, triaged the patients, and began extrication of the confined patient.  They released one occupant with minor injuries to EMS for transport.  Engine 15-1 and Rescue Squad 15 returned to service.

Later that evening a box alarm was sounded for a reported kitchen on fire at 133 West King St in the borough of Shippensburg.  Truck 53 arrived and reported a 2 story single family woodframe dwelling with light smoke showing.  Command 4 was then established by Chief O'Donnell.  The Truck crew entered and found a stove on fire which was quickly extinguished and removed.  When no extension was found, command 4 quickly held the box to 1 and 1.  Engine company 15 returned to service shortly thereafter.

Finally to finish out the day, Rescue Squad 15 was dispatched along with engine company 52 and EMS to Walnut Bottom Road in the area of the Beistle Company for an auto accident.  Engine company 52 arrived to find one auto into a tree, fully involved.  They quickly advanced an attack line and began extinguishing the auto.  EMS attended to the injured driver.  The Squad crew assisted Co. 52 with extinguishment.  Rescue Squad 15 returned to service after being released by Command 52.

Auto Into A House on Olde Scotland Rd
May 13, 2010- At 1450 hours, Engine and Rescue Squad 15 along with EMS were dispatched to the 8800 block of Olde Scotland Rd for an auto accident, reported auto into the house.  Engine 15-1, Rescue Squad 15, and Duty 15 responded on the run.  Communications advised Duty 15 that the caller reported an auto drove off the roadway, through several yards, and ended up into a house.  Duty 15 requested an operations channel and established Command 15.  Rescue Squad 15 arrived and reported they had one auto that had traveled through the side B wall of the garage with significant structural damage but, no entrapment.  Upon investigation, it was determined that the structural damage was contained to only the side B wall of the garage and the remainder of the house was deemed safe.

Crews came to find out that the driver had somehow drove off the road, through several yards, around one home but wasn't lucky enough to miss the 2nd home.  As you can see by looking at the bottom, right picture, the driver was very lucky.  That steel fence railing came within inches of the driver's chest when it impaled into the auto.  The driver was uninjured.

Command 15 was terminated and Engine 15-1 and the Rescue Squad returned to service a short time later
