| Major Snowstorm Strikes South
Central PA! |
February 5-6, 2010-
Starting on Friday afternoon and continuing through late
Saturday a major Nor'easter struck the Mid-Atlantic region
dumping anywhere from 20 to upwards of 30+ inches of powdery
snow. WEFR members, including the Fire Chief, hunkered
down and enjoyed a weekend of firehouse brotherhood along
with answering a variety of emergency calls.
Unknown to all of us that only 3 short days following this
storm, the region would be hit with another blizzard dumping
an additional 12 to 18 inches of new snow and bringing in
winds with gusts of upwards of 40 mph causing major white
out conditions and drifting snow. Many departments
within the county dealt with many stranded motorists on
Wednesday, February 10th during the height of this blizzard.
The severity of the storm forced the PA Governor to shut
down I81, I83, I80, I78, & Rt. 11/15 along with many other
roads throughout the state.
