| Air Bag Training |
|
November 7, 2009-
Members participated in an interesting in-house high
pressure air bag drill on Thursday evening. Basic high
pressure air bag procedures were reviewed. The review was
followed by a unique hands-on drill requiring members to
work as a team and raise a ladder prop approximately 16
inches from the ground while ensuring proper cribbing and
stabilization. The complexity of the drill was enhanced by
adding a full cup of water to the center of the prop.
Members completed the task successfully without spilling a
drop!

on fire at 8159 Upper Strasburg Rd in Letterkenny township.
Engine 15-1 and 15-2 responded on the box and E11-2 advised

returned to service several hours later after being released

Shippensburg Area
Emergency Services and Local Governments Receive
Chandler
Associates Municipal Cooperation Award
Shippensburg,
Pennsylvania- November 24, 2009 – On November 23, 2009 several Shippensburg
emergency services organizations and local government
entities were honored with the
Chandler Associates
Municipal Cooperation Award at the annual Pennsylvania Fire
and Emergency Services Institute Banquet.
This award, sponsored by Chandler Associates, a local
non-profit fundraising management group, is “given annually
to honor a municipality that best exemplifies the spirit of
cooperation between local government and emergency service
entities.” The
award was presented to the Shippensburg Master Fire Plan
Committee which consists of representatives from
Shippensburg Borough,
Shippensburg
Township, Southampton
Township-Franklin County, Southampton Township-Cumberland
County, Shippensburg University, Greene Township,
West End Fire and Rescue, Shippensburg Area
EMS, Vigilant Hose Company #1, and The
Cumberland Valley Hose Company.
Shippensburg was
honored for its cooperative efforts to ensure the future of
the volunteer fire service in the Shippensburg area.
This group has been working diligently for over a
year now towards several collective goals.
Understanding the increasing pressure on volunteer
companies to fundraise and a decrease in volunteers, this
group has put in place plans to consolidate financial
resources, standardize training and standard operating
guidelines and ease the time and stress on local volunteers,
all while continuing to provide the same progressive and
professional protective services to the community.
Shippensburg was selected for the award by the
Pennsylvania Fire and Emergency Services institute out of
several nominees from across the state.
Eleven representatives from the Master Fire Plan
Committee were on hand at the banquet to receive this
prestigious award. |
