| Child's Dream Weekend 2008 |
|
June 7th & 8th 2008-
On Saturday and Sunday, Company 15
held its annual Child's Dream Weekend. Members
demonstrated such things as the use of turnout gear and
SCBA's, auto extrication, hose evolutions, & EMS skills.
Life Lion paid a visit and demonstrated their abilities.
Members and kids alike had to battle though upper 90 degree
heat and high humidity throughout the weekend. The
kids even enjoyed an evening out playing mini-golf and
swimming in the Fire Chief's pool to cool off a bit.
Once again it was a very rewarding weekend for both the kids
and members involved. Thanks to everyone who
participated and helped out to make this year a success.
For more pictures of the weekend, go to the
Child's Dream
page.

| Members Attend Firehouse
Dedication in DC
|
| June 7, 2008-
On Saturday, members attended
the rededication ceremony of Engine Company 17 in the
District of Columbia. Engine Co. 17 was rededicated in
honor of our brother Jackson Gerhart and named "The Jackson
H. Gerhart House". Jackson was appointed to Engine Co.
17 at the beginning of his career with DCFD and retired from
there as the wagon driver in 1995, 32 years later. He
is the longest serving firefighter in the history of Engine
17, most of which as a very well-known and respected wagon
driver. Many members of WEFR who are now career
fireman, both with DCFD and other jurisdictions, can
attribute their career success to Jackson's advice,
knowledge, & connections within the fire service. We
tragically lost our dear brother in the line of duty in
December of 2004 and now his long time "home away from home"
has been dedicated in his name. We all miss you Jack!
