15 Pennsylvania Companies Combine To
Collect $1M AFG Grant |
West End Fire & Rescue
Co. is pleased to announced that a 1 Million Dollar
grant from the Department of Homeland Security has been award to
West End Fire & Rescue Company, along with 15 other area
departments, for the purchase of new radio systems.
WEFR spear headed the request for this grant money. They
assembled grant requests from three counties into a single
application for a grant from the Assistance to Fire Fighters
Program. Thank You

| FF Tony Albright Returns Home From
Iraq |
FF Tony Albright returns home
for the Holidays after his third tour in Iraq. The
following is a news video done by ABC27 News about his return to
the states. He will return to his duties as a Chambersburg
Fireman.

| Airport Rd MVA |
|
December 1, 2008-
Squad 15 was dispatched to Airport Rd to assist Co. 52 with
this single vehicle accident. The "Squad Crew"
stabilized the vehicle, checked for hazards, and helped
package the patient. One patient was flown via Life
Lion. Squad 15 returned to service.

| Auto Accident at Exit 29 of the
"I". |
|
December 5, 2008-
Engine and Squad 15, along with Co. 52 and EMS, were
dispatched to Interstate 81, in the area of the Exit 29
northbound off ramp, for an auto accident. Units
arrived to find one vehicle overturned. The crews
checked for any hazards around the vehicle and EMS handled
the injured. Company 15 returned to service. |

|
| Small Mattress Fire |
|
December 5, 2008-
Engine and Squad 15 were dispatched on the 52 Box for the
report of smoke at the Shippensburg Health Care Center.
Units arrived to find a small mattress fire on the 3rd
floor, out of arrival. Crews removed the mattress and
ventilated. Company 15 returned to service. |

|
| Heavy Fire Showing on Duncan Rd |
|
December 7, 2008-
At approx. 1800 hours, a box alarm was sounded for a
building on fire at #90 Duncan Rd in Southampton
township, Cumberland County. Engine Company 15
and the Squad responded on the box. After
initial dispatch, communications advised they were
receiving calls reporting a second building on fire
at that location. First arriving units reported
heavy fire showing from a 30' X 50' farm building
with multiple exposure problems. Engine Co. 15's
crew was assigned fire attack of the one exposure
building that was already involved when units
arrived while, the remaining crew members from the
Engine and Squad worked on knocking down the fire in
the main building and protecting exposures.
Units remained on the scene for several hours
mopping up hot spots and overhauling. Company
15 returned to service. |

| Electrical Fire |
|
December 13, 2008-
At 1340 hrs, Engine and Squad 15 were dispatched to 304 N.
Fayette St. for a reported electrical fire in a dwelling.
Units arrived to find nothing showing. Upon further
investigation, a minor electrical problem was found and
isolated. Units returned to service shortly
thereafter. Take notice to the one time familiar face
around the firehouse driving the wagon on this run.
Pap Elliott just happened to stop by just before the box
alarm was sounded. |

|
| Plane Crash on PA Turnpike |
|
December 18, 2008-
Squad 15 was dispatched to the PA Turnpike, mile marker 207
eastbound, for a reported plane crash with entrapment at
that location. Units from Co. 51 and the Rescue Squad
arrived to find a small two seater plane that had attempted
a emergency landing and had crashed into the guard rail.
The squad crew stabilized the plane and assisted the
occupants out of the plane. The occupants received on
minor injuries and were treated by EMS on the scene. Rescue Squad
15 returned
to service. |

|
| Pine Stump Rd MVA w/Entrapment |
|
December 19, 2008-
At 2215 hrs, Engine and
Squad 15, along with EMS, were dispatched to the 700
block of Pine Stump Rd, in Greene twp., for a reported auto
accident with entrapment. Crews arrived to find a
single vehicle involved with the driver entrapped. The
Squad crew stabilized the vehicle and began extrication.
The crew took both doors and performed a full roof removal.
Once extricated, the patient was turned over to the
ambulance crew of Co. 11. Engine and Squad 15 returned
to service.

| Auto Accident with a Pedestrian
Stuck |

December 22, 2008-
At 0705 hrs,
Squad 15 was dispatched to 3131 Orrstown Rd, box 15-5, for
an auto accident with ejection. Lt. 11 arrived shortly
after dispatch reporting an auto accident and pedestrian
accident patient laying along the roadway, DC-11 arrived and
assumed Command 15. E11-2 was assigned LZ Ops in a field
adjacent to the scene, while the crew from the Rescue Squad
assisted EMS with patient care/packaging. One patient
was flown via Life Lion while, A11-9 transported one
patient, priority 3, to the hospital. Squad 15
returned to service and Command 15 was terminated.

| Chimney Fire With Extension to
Attic |
|
December 23, 2008-
Company 15 was dispatched on a box to 415 McCullough Rd, Co.
52's box alarm area, for a reported chimney fire.
Units arrived to find a chimney fire with some extension to
the attic. The fire was knocked down quickly and
overhaul operations began. Co. 15 returned to service.

| ICE Causes Accident on the "I" |
|
December 24, 2008-
At 0202 hrs, Engine and Squad 15 were dispatched to
Interstate 81, northbound, in the area of mile marker 27 for
an auto accident, reported auto overturned. Units
arrived to find a single vehicle rolled over into a field,
off of the interstate. With no one trapped, crew
members checked for hazards and assisted EMS with packaging
the patient. Prior to this accident, freezing rain had
begun to fall in the area making roadways icy and
treacherous to travel on. Needless to say, this driver
found that out the hard way! All units returned to
service.

| Fuel Truck Overturns on Orrstown
Rd |
|
December 24, 2008-
With temps hovering right at the freezing mark for most of
the morning hours, Engine and Rescue Squad 15 were once
again called out for a MVA as a result of the icy
conditions. This time they were sent to the 2800 block
of Orrstown Rd for a fuel truck overturned. The Engine
and Rescue Squad arrived to find one small fuel truck
overturned with the roadway completely blocked.
Command 15 was established and all precautions were taken to
contain any run-off while the extent of a leak was
evaluated. Command 15 immediately had fire police shut
down Orrstown Rd and called for the Hazmat unit from Co. 52
for assistance. A small leak was contained and the
remaining product off loaded into another truck.
Orrstown Rd was shut down for and extended period of time.
All units did return to service later on that day. |

| Chimney Fire |
|
December 28, 2008-
Engine Co. 15 was dispatched, first due on the box, to 151
Mainsville Rd for a reported chimney fire with extension.
Engine 15-1 arrived and reported nothing showing. Upon
further investigation, it was found to be an electrical fire
in the wall. Crews cutoff the electric to that area
and checked for further extension. The box was scaled
back and Co. 15 returned to service a short time later. |
